WOODWINDS & BRASS
Senior High & Junior High Students:
Students will be asked to sight read a short excerpt.
In addition, all students will be asked to perform the chromatic scale. Students should be prepared to play the scale in eighth notes (quarter note = 120 or faster) and articulate the scales with a slurred style ascending and a detached style descending.
PERCUSSION
Senior High (Grades 10 - 12):
Students will be asked to sight read a short excerpt.
In addition, all students will be asked to perform the chromatic scale. Students should be prepared to play the scale in eighth notes (quarter note = 120 or faster) and articulate the scales with a slurred style ascending and a detached style descending.

Students will be asked to sight read on snare drum, timpani and xylophone. Students should prepare to perform on all three of these instruments. In addition, percussionists should prepare the following:

Snare Drum: Play the following rudiments: slow - fast - slow
  1. Long Roll
  2. Flam Accent
  3. Double Paradiddle
  4. Swiss Triplet
  5. Student's Choice
Mallets: All students will be asked to perform 5 chromatically adjacent major scales with arpeggios, 2 octaves. (quarter note = 120 or faster)

Timpani: Tune the sight reading from one given note. Play a Forte piano roll, then crescendo.


Junior High (Grades 7 - 9):
Students will be asked to sight read on snare drum, timpani and xylophone. Students should prepare to perform on all three of these instruments. In addition, percussionists should prepare the following:

  2. Paradiddle
  3. Flam Tap
  4. Student's Choice
