High School
Kenneth G. Bodiford
Mr. Bodiford earned his BS in Music Education at Jacksonville State University and his MM in Music Education and Wind Ensemble Conducting at East Carolina University in Greenville, NC. Upon completion of his MM degree, Mr. Bodiford served as the Director of Bands at Kecoughtan High School in Hampton, VA. Under his leadership, the KHS band program grew from 80 members to approximately 250 members. After his second year as the director, the KHS Wind Ensemble and the Marching Band was declared as a Virginia Honor Band by the Governor of the state.
In 1994, Mr. Bodiford assumed the position of Director of Bands at Jacksonville State University. Since his appointment to the director’s position, the band program has consistently grown in numbers and quality each year. During his tenure as the director, the Marching Southerners have grown from approximately 144 members to an excess of 380 members this past year. Throughout his career, Mr. Bodiford has studied with some of the nation’s finest teachers. As an undergraduate student, his mentor and band director was Dr. David L. Walters, Director Emeritus, Jacksonville State University. He has also studied with conductors such as Dr. William W. Wiedrich, University of South Florida, Dr. Robert Ponto, Oberlin Conservatory, and Dr. Frank Battisti, New England Conservatory. Randall Coleman
Randall Coleman is currently the Associate Director of Bands and Assistant Professor of Music at the University of Alabama where he serves as the conductor of the Alabama Symphonic Band, the Associate Conductor of the Alabama Wind Ensemble and the Associate Director of the “Million Dollar Band.” He also teaches graduate and undergraduate conducting and wind band literature classes. Mr. Coleman joins the faculty at the University of Alabama after a successful 25 year career as a high school band director and supervisor in metropolitan Atlanta, Georgia. He received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Music Education at Jacksonville State University in Jacksonville, Alabama, and his Masters of Music Education degree from Georgia State University in Atlanta, Georgia.
Mr. Coleman has been an active member of the Georgia Music Educators' Association, where he has held the office of President, First Vice-President and State Band Division Chair. Mr. Coleman has also served as Georgia State Chair for the National Band Association. He was awarded the Citation of Excellence from the National Band Association on eight occasions and was the 1992 recipient of the American School Band Directors Association's Stanbury Award for the state of Georgia and the southeastern United States. Mr. Coleman was inducted into the John Philip Sousa Foundations' "Legion of Honor" in 2004 and is also listed in "Who's Who Among America's Teachers." Bands under Mr. Coleman's direction have consistently received superior ratings on the concert stage as well as the marching field. His concert ensembles have performed on three occasions in Carnegie Hall in New York, New York. During his tenure at Milton High School in Milton, Georgia, the Milton Wind Ensemble was invited to perform at the National Convention of the Music Educators’ National Conference, the Bands of America National Concert Band Festival, and the Georgia Music Educators' Association State Conference. Marching bands under his direction have won numerous “Grand Championship” awards and also participated in the prestigious New Year's Day Parade in London, England, in 1996 and 2001, and the 2004 Fiesta Bowl Parade in Phoenix, Arizona. Mr. Coleman remains in demand as a marching and concert band clinician and adjudicator across the country and in Europe. Rusty Logan
Russell Logan is a native of Wetumpka, AL and graduate of Wetumpka High School where his band director was Mr. George Truman Welch. He attended Auburn University and received the Bachelor of Science in Music Education and Master of Music Trombone Performance degrees. Dr. Logan later attended the University of Mississippi where he was awarded the Doctor of Arts in Music Theory. Before accepting the position as Director of Bands at Auburn High School, Dr. Logan taught at Monroe Academy, Forsyth, GA and Victoria High School, Victoria, TX. He is now in his nineteenth year at Auburn High School, Auburn, AL. Under Dr. Logan’s direction the Auburn High School Band has performed twice for the Southeastern United States Concert Band Clinic and the Alabama Music Educator’s Association In-Service Clinic. The AHS Band has also performed for the Southern Division of the College Band Directors Association.
Dr. Logan’s professional affiliations include The National Band Association, Alabama Music Educators Association, Alabama Bandmasters Association, MENC The National Association for Music Education, and Phi Beta Mu. Dr. Logan is currently serving as Past-President of the Alabama Bandmasters Association. Middle School
Carla Gallahan
Carla Gallahan is Assistant Professor of Music Education at Troy University in Troy, Alabama. She received the Bachelor of Music Education Degree and the Master of Education in Music at Auburn University and is currently pursuing the Doctor of Philosophy in Music Education. As a member of the faculty at Troy University, her responsibilities include teaching music education courses, instructing the horn studio, supervising student interns, and serving as an Associate Conductor with the university bands. Ms. Gallahan is the Executive Director for the Southeastern United States Concert Band Clinic and Honor Bands held at Troy University.
Her teaching background includes eighteen years experience in the Alabama public schools. From 1989-2005, Ms. Gallahan served as band director in the Auburn City Schools in Auburn, Alabama. Under her direction, the bands at Auburn Junior High School and J.F. Drake Middle School consistently received superior ratings at contests and festivals. The band also performed as the clinic band for composer Frank Erickson, performed at the Southeastern United States Concert Band Clinic, and performed at the Alabama Music Educators Association In-service Conference. Ms. Gallahan is the Recording Secretary for the Alabama Music Educators Association and former chairman of District VI of the Alabama Bandmasters Association. She was selected to Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers and Outstanding Young Women of America, has been chosen as Auburn Junior High School Teacher of the Year, Auburn City Schools Secondary Teacher of the Year, and has served as a clinician and adjudicator throughout the Southeast. Her professional affiliations include the Music Educators National Conference, Alabama Music Educators Association, Alabama Bandmasters Association, Phi Delta Kappa, and Phi Beta Mu. William Kilgore
William Kilgore is currently the director of bands at West Jackson Middle School in Jackson County. Mr. Kilgore, a native of Milledgeville, GA received his Bachelor’s of Music Education and Master’s of Educational Leadership Degrees from the University of Georgia. He has also taught band in Walton and Hall Counties. Mr. Kilgore has earned several awards and honors throughout his college and professional career including “Teacher of the Year” at North Hall Middle School and West Jackson Middle School. His professional affiliations include the Music Educators National Conference, the Georgia Music Educators Association, Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, and PAGE. Mr. Kilgore has appeared as a guest lecturer at University of Georgia and North Georgia College. Mr. Kilgore is an active guest conductor, clinician, and adjudicator throughout the Southeastern United States. Bands under his direction have accumulated an enviable record of superior ratings at GMEA sponsored festivals. Students under Mr. Kilgore’s direction have been awarded many high honors and have been selected to perform with some of the most elite state and national performing ensembles. Mr. Kilgore serves as a conductor on the staff of Encore! Music Camps. He serves as Minister of Music at Bethabara Baptist Church in Oconee County. Mr. Kilgore also enjoys singing with the Sons of Jubal. He and his wife Ora, reside in Statham, Georgia with their three active sons, Christian, Micah, and Bill.
